Important Sikkim travel information

Protected-area permits

Tsomgo, Nathula and several North Sikkim routes require permits; eligibility differs for domestic and foreign travellers. Verify every route on the official Sikkim Tourism permit page.

Season and road conditions

Spring and autumn are popular, but mountain weather changes quickly. Monsoon rain and winter snow can affect roads, viewpoints and high passes.

Altitude and comfort

High-altitude excursions may not suit every traveller. Dress in layers, keep the day flexible and discuss health concerns with a qualified professional.
